Exploring Lean Management in Healthcare Research: A Scoping Review

Similar articles

The efficient allocation of resources in medical research remains a pressing concern. Despite the widespread recognition of waste within the field, few initiatives have been established to tackle this issue directly. One promising approach is the application of Lean Management methods, originally developed for industrial manufacturing, to healthcare research. Lean principles prioritize eliminating waste and improving efficiency, which has shown positive outcomes in clinical settings. However, its potential to enhance research processes has not been extensively investigated. This review aims to explore the implementation of Lean in healthcare research and evaluate its impact on research efficiency.

Methodological Approach

The review utilizes the Arksey and O’Malley framework for scoping reviews, adhering to the PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Researchers have developed a search strategy based on the PCC model, targeting four key databases: Scopus, Web of Science, Academic Search Premier, and Business Source Complete. Citation pearl growing will further identify pertinent literature. Data will be organized using NVivo and analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively with NVivo, RStudio, and Excel.

Ethical Considerations and Dissemination

Given that the review will only include published studies and no primary data collection, ethical approval is not required. Findings will be disseminated through various channels, including open access peer-reviewed journals, conferences, academic social media platforms, and more. This multi-faceted approach aims to reach a broad audience and foster collaborative relationships within the healthcare research community.

Key Inferences for Healthcare Researchers

– Lean Management can significantly reduce inefficient practices within healthcare research, potentially leading to cost savings and more effective use of resources.

– Implementing Lean principles may enhance the quality and speed of research outputs, benefiting patient care and treatment.

– Adoption of Lean in research processes requires a structured approach and thorough training to ensure successful implementation.

In conclusion, this scoping review seeks to map out the existing landscape of Lean Management applications in healthcare research. Through systematic analysis and comprehensive dissemination, the study aims to provide valuable insights and practical recommendations for improving research efficiency.
