Health is at the forefront of the Korea Health Industry Development Institute’s (NECA) new initiative to expand ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) management. NECA, led by President Jae-Tae Lee, has announced the ‘2024 NECA ESSG (Eusseuk Eusseuk) Challenge,’ which will run from July to December 2024. This initiative aims to promote sustainable management practices through employee participation and community engagement.
The 2024 NECA ESSG Challenge will involve employees practicing ESG rules that align with the institute’s ESG management promotion system. Activities will take place on the third week of every month, with employee participation tracked through an ‘Eusseuk Eusseuk Mileage’ system. Each participant will earn 3,000 mileage points, and the total accumulated mileage will be converted into monetary donations for the local community. The ESG management system covers key areas such as Environment (E), Safety Management (S-1), Cooperation (S-2), and Governance (G).
Health and Community Engagement: NECA’s Holistic ESG Approach
The first challenge, scheduled for the third week of July, will focus on reducing disposable product use by encouraging the use of reusable containers like tumblers and mugs. Subsequent months will feature different themes, including ‘No public transportation top-up day’ in August, ‘Traditional market main day’ in September, ‘Upcycling day’ in October, ‘Warmth Sharing Day’ in November, and ‘Digital Diet Day’ in December.
In addition to these monthly challenges, NECA plans to enhance its ESG capabilities and foster a culture of sustainable management through various activities. These include providing accurate medical information tailored to industry characteristics, volunteering in the ‘Youth Companion’ initiative to support the health of medically vulnerable populations, participating in local community activities like ‘Anabada (bazaar)’, and strengthening research ethics and human rights management.
NECA ESG Management Promotion Team Leader and Planning Coordination Office Director Pil-Sang Heo emphasized the importance of active participation in these initiatives. He stated, “To create sustainable future value by leading ESG management in the healthcare sector, we will encourage active participation of executives and employees in various NECA ESSG (Eusseuk Eusseuk) Challenge activities with the goal of achieving 1 million mileage donations.”
Health: NECA’s Strategic ESG Management Implementation
President Lee Jae-Tae expressed optimism about the initiative, highlighting its potential to drive ESG promotion across the organization. He said, “We expect to further secure the driving force for ESG promotion across the company by implementing NECA’s ESG management promotion system in conjunction with management strategies. We will realize responsible management of public institutions by more actively spreading the value of win-win cooperation.”
The NECA ESSG Challenge represents a significant step towards integrating ESG principles into the institute’s management strategies. By fostering a culture of sustainability and social responsibility, NECA aims to create long-term value and positively impact the communities it serves. This initiative not only aligns with global ESG trends but also sets a precedent for other organizations in the healthcare sector to follow.
NECA’s commitment to ESG management is evident in its comprehensive approach, which includes promoting accurate medical information, supporting vulnerable populations, and engaging in community activities. These efforts underscore the institute’s dedication to sustainable management and its role as a leader in the healthcare sector.
By implementing these initiatives, NECA aims to build a virtuous cycle of ESG management that benefits both the organization and the wider community. The 2024 NECA ESSG Challenge is a testament to the institute’s commitment to creating a sustainable future and fostering a culture of responsibility and cooperation.
