The Hyperledger Fabric (HF) framework is gaining attention for its potential to secure electronic health records (EHRs) in healthcare. Although blockchain technology finds application across various domains, its role via the HF framework in healthcare remains largely unexplored. A systematic literature review (SLR) has been conducted to delve deeper into the HF framework and its applications in healthcare.

The SLR encompasses literature published from January 2015 to March 2023, sourced from databases such as the ACM digital library, IEEE Xplore, SCOPUS, Springer, PubMed, and Google Scholar. Following set inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 57 articles were deemed suitable for the SLR.

The HF framework is revealed to be beneficial in securing health records derived from the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) and multiple other devices. Privacy and security, integrity, traceability, and availability were identified as the primary reasons behind the adoption of the HF framework for health records.

Moreover, the HF framework helps alleviate storage issues associated with transactional data on the blockchain. The SLR points out potential future research trends, stressing the importance of ensuring high-level security for health records.
