NWO-NWA Projects in Preventive Health Research: Exploring Breakthrough Initiatives

The report, compiled by ZorgOnderzoek Nederland and the Medical Sciences (ZonMW), outlines the Call for Proposals aimed at soliciting innovative projects on prevention and health research under the Nationale Wetenschapsagenda (NWA) routes to drive substantive renewal within their respective domains. Applicants are encouraged to collaborate with social organizations and focus on innovative ideas, leveraging existing knowledge, synthesizing knowledge to identify gaps in the agenda, and combining these elements to foster new connections across the knowledge chain. These health research projects aim to enhance both social and scientific impact, engaging citizens and stakeholders along the route.

Each application must be endorsed by the route network, with a statement from the route figurehead or tractor as a mandatory appendix. Applicants can request funding ranging from €50,000 to €150,000 per application, with a maximum budget of €300,000 per route for project selection. The proposed projects should not exceed 24 months.

Health Research Call for Proposals: Thorough Evaluation and Feedback Process

The health research application deadline for this Call for Proposals is set for September 12, 2024, with submissions due before 2:00 PM CEST on that day. During the evaluation process, submissions will undergo thorough scrutiny based on two primary criteria: alignment with the objectives outlined in the call, weighted at 50%, and the overall quality of the proposed project, also weighted at 50%. An independent assessment committee will meticulously review all applications, ensuring a fair and rigorous evaluation process.

If an application is deemed insufficient during the initial review, applicants will have the opportunity to provide additional feedback and insights to address any identified shortcomings. This feedback loop underscores the commitment to transparency and fairness in the assessment process, allowing applicants to refine their proposals and enhance their chances of success.

Following the comprehensive evaluation phase, the final decision on the acceptance of applications will rest with the NWO Board of Directors. This decision-making body will convene at a later date to deliberate on the merits of each submission and determine the projects that align most closely with the overarching goals of the Call for Proposals.

NWO Ensures Rigorous Selection for Innovative Prevention and Health Research Projects

By adhering to stringent evaluation criteria and involving an independent assessment committee, the NWO ensures that only the most promising and impactful projects are selected for funding. This rigorous selection process underscores the organization’s dedication to supporting innovative research initiatives that have the potential to drive substantive change within the field of prevention and health research.

Applicants are encouraged to submit their proposals well in advance of the deadline to allow ample time for review and potential revisions. Additionally, they should remain engaged with the route management of the relevant NWA route to ensure adherence to the selection process and to address any queries or concerns that may arise during the application process.

It’s crucial for applicants to ensure their health research projects are endorsed by the respective NWA routes and to adhere to the selection process outlined by route management. For further information on deadlines and selection procedures, applicants are advised to contact the management of the relevant route.
