With the dawn of digital healthcare, smart toothbrushes emerge as a promising tool for telemonitoring oral hygiene. These advanced devices could revolutionize traditional brushing routines by providing real-time feedback. However, despite their potential, the public and dental professionals are largely unaware of their existence. This study explores the awareness and acceptance of smart toothbrushes, shedding light on their potential application in telemonitoring oral health.
The Study Approach
The research employed a cross-sectional survey taken in September and October 2023, incorporating a diverse group of 600 participants—200 dentists, 200 dental hygienists, and 200 members from the general public. The survey aimed to investigate demographics, dental habits, knowledge on smart toothbrushes, and the willingness to either adopt or invest in telemonitoring services. Participants also shared their preferences concerning app features associated with smart toothbrushes.
Key Insights from Survey
Results revealed a widespread unfamiliarity with smart toothbrushes, with over 85% of all survey participants unaware of them. Yet, an impressive 80% of dental experts and 87% of the public showcased enthusiasm to either recommend or use these devices. Furthermore, it emerged that younger individuals and females held higher expectations towards the effectiveness of smart toothbrushes. Seniors, in contrast, demonstrated a greater willingness to pay for feedback from professionals. Notably, service fee expectations diverged between patients and dental professionals.
– A significant majority of participants were not aware of smart toothbrushes.
– Younger participants preferred interactive app functions.
– Older adults valued educational content more.
– There is a noticeable gap in fee expectations between patients and professionals.
As smart toothbrushes capture interest, it’s essential to strategize on increasing awareness and addressing monetary hurdles to facilitate their integration into telemonitoring. Innovative, user-friendly designs with diverse function options tailored to different demographics will also be crucial. Encouraging awareness campaigns, refining cost structures, and developing features that cater to users’ distinct needs can realize the potential of these devices in modern oral hygiene and telehealth practices. Understanding these dynamics will be instrumental in cultivating a more informed and health-conscious society.
